Who We Are: Aborted, Belgian Death Metal Since 1995
If you've ever stood in a pit while we tear through a set, you already know the feeling. But who is the band behind the spiky logo, and where did we come from? Here's a quick guide for new listeners and old ones.
Where are we from?
We were founded in Waregem, Belgium, in 1995 by vocalist Sven de Caluwé. He is the band's only constant member: the line-up has changed many times around him over three decades.
Where does the name come from?
A practical choice. Sven picked a name starting with "A" so our CDs would sit near the front of the record-store racks.
Who is in the band?
Today we're built around Sven de Caluwé on vocals, with Ian Jekelis (since 2015) and Daníel Máni Konráðsson (since 2022) on guitar. Siebe Hermans has played drums with us on tour since 2025.
What do we sound like?
Fast, brutal and technical death metal, with grindcore in its blood. Our songs lean hard on horror films: our 2024 album Vault of Horrors pays tribute to a different horror classic on every track, each with a guest vocalist.

Wear the logo
The splattered logo on our designs is the band's own, in red, green, gold, violet and more. Aborted Merch has tees, hoodies and sweatshirts. Whether you've been there since the first album or just found us, there's something for your corner of the pit.
